The difference between Every1Speaks and other educational products is that other developers take something like Facebook and strip it down to try and fit it into an educational context and this, like a square peg in a round hole, often fails. Every1Speaks have started from the ground up; this is not a pale imitation of another product, it is an innovative, original and powerful product which fills a real gap and gives a flexible, efficient and creative platform for learners to have their voices heard. The potential for Every1Speaks moves far beyond the school council finding out what other students prefer for lunch into the realms of enquiry based learning where it can be used to ask questions of other learners in the school and potentially a worldwide audience. When we first were given training on Every1Speaks it was instantly clear how it would be possible to utilise this to revolutionise our work for the Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Award. Now that all students are able to access Every1Speaks it is possible to get real data to influence decision making in school. We can ask pertinent questions and get responses from a variety of children, rather than their School Council spokespersons. Children can discuss topics that interest them, and really shape the decisions made in school. Children can also share their opinions about world events and begin to form their own thoughts and feelings. The data is collated in a much more convenient way, it is less time consuming and leaves time for staff involved to act upon matters rather than be completing paperwork.
We are currently working towards the next level of the RRSA award, and I can honestly say we wouldn’t have made this progress without Every1Speaks.

Often we only ask our pupils questions we are happy to hear the answers to. We started using Every1Speaks with our pupils in 2011 and were keen to give them the opportunity to get them more involved in decisions that affect them. We met Peter through Creative Partnerships and know how important using creative approaches to learning are. Initially we decided to dedicate 10mins at the start of each classes weekly ICT time to Every1Speaks. After two weeks we reduced this to 5mins as we were inundated with posts – the pupils loved the interface! This was obviously a great problem to have but meant we needed to rethink how we moderated their posts. Previously one person moderated all of the ideas but this was becoming a full time job – this year we hope to get the school council much more involved in process.
